Occlusodontics is the field of dentistry that deals with the relationship between the teeth, the relationship between the jaws, and the muscular and articular tensions that a bad relationship can cause.

The balancing of the meshing of the teeth (dental occlusion)

The position of the jaws is determined by the meshing of the teeth. We are talking about the occlusal balance of the teeth, which must touch each other at the same time, at specific points, and in a balanced way between the right and the left.

If the balance is not respected in the static position of the jaws, or during the movements of the jaws that we constantly repeat when chewing, a muscular imbalance will occur that cannot be resolved by wearing night aligners alone.

In these cases, the dentist must intervene in order to determine which teeth or restorations (crowns, bridges, composites or other) are causing this imbalance and touch them up punctually by a light selective grinding. The grinding is very often very superficial, limited to a small part of the dental enamel or the ceramic of a poorly balanced crown that generated the right meeting and the right dynamics of the jaws.

In other cases, some teeth may be underbite and not touching the antagonist teeth. In this case, the dentist will have to make small additions of resins or ceramics (by placing Inlay/Onlay or occlusal veneers called Overlay or Table-topin order to restore the contacts between the teeth.

If a dental crown is underbite, it can be changed to better meet the antagonist tooth.
